On Friday, Doc Rivers had told the Clippers he was no longer interested in the position. On Saturday, L.A. Began contract negotiations with other candidates Byron Scott and Brian Shaw. On Sunday, the story made a 180-degree turn. After over a week of intense rumors (and month of not-so-intense ones), Doc Rivers appears finally headed to the Los Angeles Clippers. Numerous media outlets are reporting that Rivers will leave Boston for L.A., and sign a three-year, $21 million dollar deal. The Celtics will receive an unprotected 2015 1st round draft pick from L.A. in exchange for letting Doc out of his current contract. Kevin Garnett is unlikely to follow Rivers west, as any separate deal between the two teams would be viewed at by the league office as a related and under-the-table move. Paul Pierce, however, still has a $5 million dollar buyout in his contract, which would pave the wave for a move to his hometown of L.A. Chris Paul is expected to agree to a new contract with the Clippers as soon as the ink dries on Doc’s new deal.
